My husband and I are going 100% paleo. We also do Crossfit (yup, we're drinking the Koolaid.). We are not ruminants and it is very difficult for us to get the proper amounts of iron, vitamin B and protein from a strict vegetarian diet (and it's even harder as a vegan). Being a vegetarian is a full-time job.
